Persian Scholarly Collection Becomes a DFG Project

In September 2018 the University and State Library Saxony-Anhalt (ULB) received the extensive private library of the Iranian-born scholar Ali-Reza Rahbar from Bonn. We had reported about it in our newsletter and  here on our web portal.

The ULB has now succeeded in applying for a new DFG project for the ”Cataloguing and Digitisation” of the Persian scholarly collection. The Iranian Studies of our academic community should particularly benefit from this funding.

The donation is a valuable source for research into the cultural and religious history of modern Iran. About 4,500 Persian monographs and about 80 Persian journals from the period 1950-2000 can now be catalogued and made available for scholarly use until the end of 2022.

In the course of the project, the copyright-free parts will be digitised, fully text-recognised and made available worldwide in open access via MENAdoc.
