Persian Miniatures

Using 16 examples, the book explains the tradition of miniatures in Persian manuscripts from the 13th to the early 17th century. The drawings decorated poetic works such as the epic poem “Šāhnāmah” or religious writings.

The beautiful illustrations are shown full-page and put into their art-historical context by the author.

“Persische Miniaturen” appeared in 1961 in the series “Kleine Galerie großer Meister” (Little Gallery of Great Masters) and is now available on MENAdoc in Open Access.
