The Specialised Information Service Middle East Suggests: DAVO Membership

The German Middle East Studies Association for Contemporary Research and Documentation (DAVO) ) is a non-profit association of people interested in contemporary research on the Middle East and its relations with other regions.

Our Specialised Information Service has been a regular guest at the annual DAVO Congress with lectures and information desks and is in exchange with its members.

DAVO members become part of an interdisciplinary academic network with approximately 1300 members. This includes academics, students as well as representatives of the media, the diplomatic service, development cooperation, culture and business.

To promote research cooperation among DAVO members, DAVO working groups have been formed on specific topics. They engage in intensive academic exchange, organise topic-related panels at conferences, coordinate joint publications, etc.

DAVO provides weekly information on conferences, job advertisements, internships, scholarships, new research projects, etc. on the Middle East. In addition, the members’ magazine DAVO-Journal is published twice a year.

The news service MideastWire is available to association members for a very reasonable fee. This service delivers the most important articles on political, cultural and economic topics from the media in 22 Arab countries translated into English on a daily basis.

The International DAVO Congress attracts up to a thousand participants from all over the world every year. It offers a platform to present your own work and to make new contacts.

Doctoral students have the opportunity to present their dissertation concepts for discussion during the workshop talks at the DAVO Congress. They will be supervised by experienced DAVO members.

The dissertation prize totalling 3000 Euros will be awarded to the best dissertations of DAVO members from the past year. These will be awarded publicly at the congress.

The annual fee is 30€ regular and only 10€ for students and persons on lower incomes.

Only 2021: Anybody who is joining DAVO before the end of 2021 does not have to pay the membership fee for the current year.
