User group models for FID licences

The Specialised Information Service for Middle Eastern, North African and Islamic Studies acquires access rights to fee-based online services for various academic user groups. The aim is to keep this circle of users as open as possible. The following models are currently used.

National licence

National licences allow scientists, students and private individuals with an interest in science to access licence offers without subject-related restrictions.

Access is granted by activating the IP numbers of mainly publicly funded universities and research institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany. Many university networks can also be used by members via VPN or other remote connections from outside.

More about national licences

Some licensors offer online access via Shibboleth. Members of research institutions who can authenticate themselves via Shibboleth thus have access that is independent of the network.

For scientific purposes, private individuals can Request individual login via proxy serverunless they have access via an academic library and their place of residence is in Germany.

Campus licence

Campus licences give academics and students at selected universities and research institutions access to licence offers. The selection of licenced institutions is generally based on their research focus.

The specialised information service has defined a user group comprising 32 institutions that conduct research specifically in the field of Middle Eastern and Islamic studies.

Access is granted by activating the IP numbers of the selected institutions. Many university networks can also be used via VPN or other remote connections from outside.

Community licence (single user)

Access for individual users gives scientists and students from a specific specialist community individual access to one or more licensed products.

Access is by login via proxy server. Interested parties must register with the FID licence portal. The prerequisites for access as an individual user are residence in Germany or membership of a German research project.
