Co-operations

with other Specialised Information Services

Our range of subjects and our service focuses have regional and subject overlaps with other Specialised Information Services.

Overview

Co-operation agreements

Islam or the Christian Oriental churches, for example, are global phenomena whose research extends beyond the boundaries of our region. Many academics also conduct research on interdisciplinary or transregional issues and should therefore also be able to benefit from the services offered by related FIDs.

In order to optimally manage user requirements and prevent gaps in care, co-operation agreements were established with regional and thematic FIDs.

In particular, the FID Network Asia in which the Asia-related FIDs coordinate their services and thus support Asian Studies as a whole.

Here you will find a list of these specialised information services with the respective common intersections.

FID Network Asia

In the FID Network Asia, several regional Specialised Information Services cooperate to provide information and source material with a high degree of specialisation for research on Asia and Asian Studies. The individual FIDs coordinate their acquisition activities to ensure optimal regional coverage and also to take into account the transregional character of many research questions.

Requests and demands for Asia-specific materials from the humanities, social sciences, religious and literary studies, which exceed the narrower regional scope of an individual FID, are thus served cooperatively within the network.

In addition, the network develops services in close consultation that address specific issues typical of Asian studies.

This includes, for example, the standardisation of metadata in original and transcribed scripts, the improvement of OCR and transcription software for non-Latin scripts or the special features of research data management for materials relevant to Asia.
