MECAM Papers
The series MECAM Papers offers concise and in-depth analyses of the social, cultural and political realities of the Maghreb, mainly in the period since around 2011. It is an online series that aims to explore the relationship between multidimensional inequality and the possibilities for constructing and negotiating models of the future in contemporary Maghreb societies.
The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) was founded in April 2020 as an international centre for interdisciplinary research and academic exchange at the University of Tunis.
MECAM is the joint project initiated by a consortium of renowned North African and German research institutions and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
MECAM is coordinated by the Philipps University of Marburg and the Université de Tunis and is supported by the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin, the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, the University of Leipzig, the Institut Tunisien des Études Stratégiques (ITES) in Tunis/Tunisia, University of Sfax/Tunisia and the Hassan II University in Casablanca/Morocco.
The series MECAM Papers offers concise and in-depth analyses of the social, cultural and political realities of the Maghreb, mainly in the period since around 2011. MECAM Papers is an online series that aims to explore the relationship between multidimensional inequality and the possibilities for constructing and negotiating models of the future in contemporary Maghreb societies. Interdisciplinary, cross-regional and cross-generational, MECAM's research revolves around a central theme: "Imagining Futures - Coping with Disparities".
The MECAM Papers series is aimed at a broader, interested audience, including academia, the arts, the media, the private sector, political decision-makers, foundations and NGOs. This enables the authors to make their research accessible to a diverse readership beyond specialist circles. The MECAM Papers are published with Open Access in three languages (English, French & Arabic) in order to achieve a wider reach in the Global South.
In cooperation with the editor of the series - Dr. Maria Josua - the FID Middle East ensures on the one hand a clear visibility by cataloguing and on the other hand a secure long-term availability of the MECAM papers in three languages (English, French & Arabic) by storing them in the subject repository MENAdoc.
