Description:

Is there a discrete and coherent esthetic enterprise called “Muslim cinema”? If so, does it possess any unique and defining characteristics? And how does it differ from other types of cinema based not on national provenance, but emerging from a diverse set of global religious communities? The Michigan State University Muslim Studies Program is convening a conference in April of 2018 to discuss these three questions from a variety of different perspectives including post-modern and post-colonial theory, Film Studies, socio-political context, and historical development throughout the twentieth century and till the present.
