Religion and Politics in Iran: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Dilemmas

The DFG-Research Group “Multiple Secularities – Beyond the West, Beyond Modernities” (Leipzig University) invites you to a public lecture on ‘Religion and Politics in Iran: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Dilemmas‘ on 6 February 2017. The lecture will take place in the Bibliotheca Albertina and will be held by Nahid Mozaffari. You can find the Lecutre Poster here.

“Iran is the only country which has experienced two revolutions, a repressive secular authoritarian regime, several short-lived foreign occupations, two coup d’états, a protracted war with an aggressor neighbor, several popular uprisings, and a repressive theocratic regime—all since the early 20th century.

What is the impact of this turbulent history on the political, social, and cultural realities of contemporary Iran?  How do recent trends and events in the world affect the political landscape and the lives of the Iranian people?

After the presentation the floor will be open for discussion.”
