Religion and Politics in Iran: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Dilemmas

„Iran is the only country which has experienced two revolutions, a repressive secular authoritarian regime, several short-lived foreign occupations, two coup d’états, a protracted war with an aggressor neighbor, several popular uprisings, and a repressive theocratic regime—all since the early 20th century.

What is the impact of this turbulent history on the political, social, and cultural realities of contemporary Iran?  How do recent trends and events in the world affect the political landscape and the lives of the Iranian people?

After the presentation the floor will be open for discussion.“
